Dundas Blues got back on the winning track last week with three wins as Robert Bentivegna sparked his teammates with a six-point week, helping move the squad into sole ownership of first place in the Niagara District Junior C Hockey League’s east division. Wins of 5-3 over Dunnville on Friday, 3-1 over Aylmer and 7-1 over Dunnville Tuesday night, improved the Blues record to 9-2. Grimsby sits just two points behind, with one less game played, as of Wednesday.

Bentivegna began the rebound last week with three goals against Dunnville, after back-to-back losses that dropped the Blues’ record to 6-2.

The Blues demonstrated a deep goaltending corps as three different netminders earned wins. Bentivegna began Dundas’ comeback when they were down 2-0. Goals also came from Jesse Healy and Kevin Dowling.

“Although we were shorthanded all weekend due to illness and injuries, we seemed to turn it around from our last few games,” said coach Dan Caco. “Bentivegna and his line (Cole McNeil and Nick Bazinet) seemed to give the rest of the team a jump.”

The team kept it going the next night as McNeil scored from Bentivegna and Andrew Clark, Bazinet found the net assisted by Mike Peters and McNeil scored from Bazinet and Bentivegna.

Tuesday night at the J. L. Grightmire Arena, Dundas bombarded Dunnville with 58 shots. Seventeen of Dunnville’s 30 shots came in the third period, as the Blues got into penalty trouble. Healy (2), Kolodzey, D. J. McConnell, John Murray, Bentivegna and Dowling all scored.

Clint Windsor started in net last Friday, but was pulled for Cam Graham. Graham stopped 15 of 16 shots to earn the win.

Shawn Krzykala was back between the pipes Saturday, stopping 35 of 36 shots for his seventh win of the year.

Windsor was back Tuesday night, stopping 29 of 30 shots for his first win of the season.

Dundas next plays Chippawa on the road on Sunday, Nov. 1. The Blues return home to Grightmire Arena to face Caledonia at 7:30 p. m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The Blues host an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner at Parkside on Monday, Nov. 9 from 6-8:30 p. m.
