Re: Focus on issue in leash-free debate, Jan. 28
Albeit difficult to do, this should not be about the emotional convictions of either side. Warren Park leash-free dog park — great idea, yet totally wrong place. I love dogs, belong to at least eight animal charities, have a dog, but won't take mine into that park.
I have lived in the area for 17 years and the number of dogs and dog altercations is growing exponentially. I have witnessed deer chased almost daily, and in the spring, baby raccoons terrorized and killed. So many locals have said they used to go for a daily walk there but no longer can. "It's not ours anymore, it belongs to the dogs.” And that's just not right.
One simple item could be the compromise — a leash.
