Hamilton Police are launching a two-week traffic enforcement campaign to focus on drivers who ignore the distracted driving legislation.
It will run from Sunday through March 28th. The focus of the enforcement campaign will be on drivers who still hold their phone, entertainment devices or their GPS devices in a handheld mode. If caught, they will receive a ticket for $155.
Ontario's distracted driving law took effect in October. Most drivers were not ticketed during an educational period which lasted until Feb. 1.
Police say Transport Canada statistics show a driver is four times more likely to be involved in a driving incident while using a handheld device.
