Dundas Real McCoys moved into a tie for first place in the Major League Hockey standings with the Whitby Dunlops following back-to- back victories this weekend.

The Real McCoys remain undefeated against Orillia this season, winning 10-4 Friday night. It was the third time this season and second time against the Tundras, the team reached double-digit scoring. The victory was followed by a 5-3 win over Norwood. The two points earned by Dundas brought them into a share of the league lead. Dundas is scheduled to host Whitby tomorrow night (Friday) in the J. L. Grightmire Arena at 7:45 p. m. before meeting the Dunnies the following day for a 3:30 p. m. faceoff. The McCoys round out their season against Orillia on Friday, Feb,. 12 at 7:45 p. m. in Dundas before playing their final game against the Tundras the next day at 3 p. m. at Copps Coliseum. This game marks the first time ever that a regular season MLH game will be played in Copps Coliseum.

"The weekend sweep puts first-place destiny in our hands,” said McCoys general manager Don Robertson. “Having to play Whitby home and home this weekend will likely determine the final standings."

Dundas scored three and a half minutes into the game on Friday and never looked back. The line of Nick Smith, Ryan Kuwabara, and Ryan Christie combined for 11 points, including a three-goal game by Smith. The game was out of reach for Orillia after Dundas scored five unanswered goals in the second period. Dundas’ range was on display in the third with an evenstrength, power play and shorthanded goal. Newly acquired goalie Dan Turple got the win, stopping 19 of 23 shots. Dundas found themselves down a goal after the second period in their game in Norwood despite out-shooting the Vipers 31- 15. Shawn Shewchuk proved to be the third-period hero.

The Real McCoys persevered and took the lead after captain Mike Kennedy tied the game, assisted by Shewchuk. Shewchuk then assisted Smith’s game-winning goal and added an empty-netter.
