Now the property’s owner is appealing Hamilton city council’s rejection of an application for a storage facility on the site. An Ontario Municipal Board hearing is set to begin Jan. 11, 2010.
According to a confidential report from the former town’s administrator, David Varley, to the Dundas general government committee: “The intent is to build an outdoor recreation facility –a golf driving range –on this site.”
The June 23, 1999 report was dealt with during an in-camera meeting because it involved the sale of municipal property.
City of Hamilton clerks department staff told the Dundas Star News last month the report cannot be released because it is still confidential.
The newspaper made a formal Freedom of Information request for the report.
In a letter dated Nov. 19, access and privacy officer Debbie-Ann Rashford stated: “The four-page record has been reviewed and it has been determined that no exemptions attach to the record to preclude full disclosure to you.”
The former town sold the company a small, triangular piece of land along Olympic Drive, north of Park Street. According to the report, the Regional Municipality of Hamilton- Wentworth had recently reached an agreement to sell 11 acres of land to Dundas Business Park Limited.
Varley’s report stated the land at Olympic and King Street East had been commonly referred to as the Dundas Business Park.
“For many years development of these lands has been investigated but because of soil conditions a fully developed Business Park never materialized.”
The report includes no mention of any other possible uses for the site, other than the intention to develop a driving range.
