Whitby jumped out to an early lead before Dundas defenceman Tom Brown scored a power-play marker. Despite five other powerplays, that was all the McCoys could muster in the first. Whitby goalie Anthony Marshall kept his team in the game with 14 saves.
The power-play woes continued for the Real McCoys in the second. They went 0 for 4 with the man advantage. The Dunlops scored three times, leaving the Real McCoys in for an uphill battle entering the third down 4-1.
An early goal by Whitby in the third sealed the game. Goaltender Brett Leggat did his best to keep
Dundas in the game, stopping 38 of 43 shots.
Coming off the rough loss, the Real McCoys hoped to wrap up their weekend with a win on the road against Norwood. The Vipers posted a goal less than three minutes into the opening frame.
The Vipers went up 2-1 after McCoy forward Frank Grandits received a questionable hooking penalty just past the midway point. The McCoys got on the board before the period ended however, as Brown got the offence started.
The floodgates opened in the second period as the McCoys knotted four goals. Dundas’ special teams flourished as they buried a short-handed goal with less than two minutes to go in the second period. Norwood’s undisciplined play saw them get into penalty trouble as a Vipers double minor penalty led to another McCoys’ power-play marker.
The special teams’ efficiency carried over into the third period as forward Ryan Christie scored yet another short-handed goal, and Christie wasn’t done picking apart the Vipers defence, burying the seventh and final goal as the McCoys steamrolled their way to a 7-3 final. Brown led the offence with a three-point night and receiving the game’s first star.
Be sure to catch Dundas’ home opener against the Norwood Vipers on Friday, Nov. 6 , 7:45 p. m. at J. L. Grightmire Arena.
