Hamilton received over $7 million in funding from both levels of senior levels of government to construct over 80 affordable housing units for low-income seniors.

The money from the federal and provincial governments will be allocated to Spallacci Contracting Ltd., T. Valeri Construction Ltd., and Halton Heritage Inc.

Hamilton Mountain Liberal MPP Sophia Aggelonitis said the first phase of the construction is scheduled to begin this September.

The money is from the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program agreement that the province and federal governments signed last year.

Today's announcement in Hamilton, which was also attended by David Sweet, Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale Conservative MP, is part of 23 “quick start projects” made by Ontario officials at a cost of over $52 million.

The federal government announced last year $1.9 billion in affordable housing money that will be used over five years. In addition, the federal government has $2 billion over two years to invest in new and existing social housing units.
