The Farmers Market has returned to Downtown Dundas following a lengthy absence. Ontario’s Agriculture Minister Leona Dombrowsky and our MPP, Consumer and Government Services Minister Ted McMeekin joined numerous vendors and shoppers at the official opening on June 18. Thank you to Phyllis Kraemer, Angelo Morgante, Judy Boswell, Chris Krucker and Melanie Golba for their tireless work in turning this idea into reality. The market will operate every Thursday from 3-7 p. m. until the end of October in municipal parking lot 7D (Hatt Street and Miller’s Lane).

The Victoria Day fireworks display returned to the Dundas Driving Park following a temporary relocation to the Christie Conservation Area in 2008 while construction of the park’s multi-use complex was being undertaken…I would welcome any comments that you have about the event.

Congratulations to the Dundas Pipes & Drums for their participation in the recent Hamilton International Military Tattoo…you do us all proud. Bring your lawn chairs and join me as the Dundas Concert Band kicks off their summer concert series at the newly constructed Stan Rogers Bandshell in the Dundas Driving Park. Their opening night is Tuesday, July 7. The concerts continue through Tuesday, Aug. 11 inclusive, 7:30 p. m.

When you are doing your shopping in downtown Dundas and require a longer period, remember that the parking rate in the various off-street municipal parking lots is significantly lower than on-street parking (60 cents and hour versus 85 cents an hour).

If you use Old Ancaster/Old Dundas Road as your route of choice for your trips to and from Ancaster, I would suggest you consider an alternative until the end of August. Horizon Utilities is doing major work on their transmission lines so you should expect lengthy traffic delays between 9 a. m. and 4 p. m., Monday to Friday due to required lane reductions.

As I had advised in an earlier column, my city council colleagues have supported my request for priority funding for the $2.5-million reconstruction of King Street (York to Market) and the $2.1M reconstruction of York Road (Valley to Newman) in our application to the federal/provincial Infrastructure Stimulus Fund (ISF). Regrettably, these two submissions were not approved but will be done with funding through the city’s capital program within the next five years.
