Re: Canada officially promotes culture of death, July 11 The News.
I cannot believe the arrogance of the author of this letter to the editor and his misguided opinions on abortion. The issue is about men and religion having control over women.
There are many situations, such as rape and health issues, where abortion may well be the best solution. No doubt counselling and education should be readily available to ensure that abortion does not become a substitute for birth control.
I particularly enjoyed the letter's reference to Pope John Paul's remarks. The Catholic Church has such a stellar reputation regarding women in the priesthood, sexual abuse of children and birth control.
I truly believe that Dr. Henry Morgentaler deserves recognition for bringing this issue into the open where, hopefully, it will dealt with politically.
In the meantime, women, not men or religion, should be allowed to control their own destinies.
