The garden at the recently completed modern home at 251 Hatt St., is a special highlight of this year’s 47th annual St. James Anglican Church Holiday House Tour and artisans showcase on Dec. 2.
Five featured homes decorated for the season, including a 167-year-old former inn, plus the unique landscaped garden of a modern home, highlight the 47th annual St. James Anglican Church Holiday House Tour and artisans showcase.
A limited number of tickets are available at $40 each for the Saturday, Dec. 2 event from the church at 137 Melville St., in Dundas and local businesses The Keeping Room (6 Cross St.); Graham & Brooks (64 Hatt St.) and Harper’s Garden Centre (1039 Wilson St. E.).
House tour committee member Anne Washington said this year’s event includes five “charming heritage and modern” Dundas homes “all decorated for Christmas.”
She said live music will add to the ambience in three of the homes.
“A professionally landscaped winter garden is an added feature, where attendees can breathe in the beauty of this unique space while sipping cider,” Washington said. “Back at the church people can enjoy a cup or two of tea, Christmas cake and music. Jams, jellies and frozen apple pies are for sale.”
A juried artisan showcase runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the church. It is open to the public free of charge. A wide variety of handcrafted items, including jewelry, paintings and ornaments, can be purchased.

New this year is a Holiday House Tour program with photos and descriptions of the homes and garden, and a map of locations.
Among the homes is 167-year-old 16 Hatt St. The former Farmer’s Exchange Inn welcomed farmers who sold their wares at the Dundas Town Hall Market across the street. In the 1880s it was converted into a residence.
A curved archway that provided access to barns and stables behind the building was bricked in but is still visible.
Other homes on the tour include 29 South St. W., 31 Witherspoon St., 120 Jerome Park Dr., and 789 Slote Rd.
An addition this year is the garden of the modern home at 251 Hatt St., inspired by the homeowners’ world travels and designed by landscape architect Virginia Burt.
Unique features include a garden shed made of salvaged materials and granite landscaping. Native plants are incorporated into the garden.
