Road 2 Hope
Last weekend, 3,000 runners participated in Losani Homes’ Road 2 Hope Hamilton Marathon. The event, which included a one-kilometre kids run, five-kilometre run/family walk and 10-kilometre run at Confederation Park, as well as a run/walk half and Boston qualifier marathon along the Red Hill Valley Parkway, raised more than $100,000 for Hamilton City Kidz, an inner city organization, which operates weekly activities for children, and the Joy and Hope of Haiti, which raises funds to build schools and other infrastructure projects for children in Haiti. Club celebrating 60 years of Rotary
Rotary Club of Dundas president Christine Green and Alan Smith, chair of the 60th anniversary gala, invite the public to help celebrate Rotary’s long history in the community. A gaming gala, complete with dancing, blackjack, silent auction, finger foods and more, is planned for Nov. 22, 7:30-11:30 p. m., Dundas Golf and Curling Club. Proceeds will support the Rotary Skating Rink currently under construction in the Dundas Driving Park. Tickets are $50 per person. Call 905-308-4045.

Award honours war time service
Susanne McGivern, a resident of St. Joseph’s Villa, last week received an award from Lincoln Alexander, Ontario’s former Lieutenant Governor, honouring her involvement with the Women’s Land Army during World War Two. The WLA provided a mobile labour force of young women to replace men being called into the Armed Forces from agricultural and horticultural jobs in Britain. Ms. McGivern was one of 203,000 “Land Girls” who helped produce food to feed the nation. The Dundas Legion will mark Remembrance Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with the annual parade and ceremony. The parade is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a. m. at Memorial Square outside the Dundas fire station. Veterans and Legion members will march to the war memorial at the Dundas Community Centre on Market Street at 10:30, where the the ceremony is set to take start at 10:45 a. m. The event continues with a reception at the Dundas Legion Branch at noon followed by presentations at 12:30 p. m.
