Film fest screens The Young Victoria
Arts & Entertainment
Mar 04, 2010
Ancaster Film Fest's third film of 2010, An Education, attracted an audience of 608 despite nasty weather conditions. Some $1,300 from the proceeds was donated to the Hamilton Out of the Cold.

The next film is The Young Victoria, which has been nominated for Best Costume, Best Art Direction and Best Makeup Oscars. The Young Victoria will screen on March 8 at 4 and 7:15 p. m. at the Ancaster Silver City. Box office opens at 3:15 and 6:15 respectively. Non-members pay $9 at the 4 p. m. and $10 at the 7:15 p. m.

Acclaimed director Jean-Marc Vallée returns with The Young Victoria, a delicate and profoundly romantic look at England’s last golden age. It stars the charismatic Emily Blunt as Victoria and follows her struggle to succeed as the ruler of England, a quest blocked by her mother, the Duchess of Kent (Miranda Richardson), and her “adviser,” Sir John Conroy.

The Young Victoria gives us an in-depth portrait of the often ruthless machinations that characterized the dealings between royal families: patriotism and family loyalties were labyrinthine in their complications, and battles for leverage and position even poisoned mother-daughter relationships. But Vallée’s film is also a truly felt romance, from the very first meeting, we sense a mutual bond between Albert and Victoria, despite the restrictions placed on their interactions.

Proceeds from the screenings will be split between the Neighbour to Neighbour Centre and the Good Shepherd Centre.
