Dickens’ tale still timely

Nov 28, 2008
Charles Dickens’ classic tale A Christmas Carol, written in 1843, delivers a timely message in today’s volatile economic climate.
Having himself been brought up in dire poverty, Dickens became not only a successful writer, but also a passionate social commentator of his times.
In 1858, he launched a series of public readings, among them a dramatic version of his Christmas novella. While Dickens used a script, he rehearsed and memorized the parts. It has been said these appearances exhausted him.
Actor John Huston of Winnipeg will re-create Dickens’ performance on Dec. 5, when he returns to the historic Dundas Town Hall auditorium.
Call the Dundas Museum and Archives at 905-627-7412 for tickets and information.
