Dundas Little Theatre Youth Players, a not-for-profit theatre program for children aged nine to 14, offers children the opportunity to write, develop, research, perform and technically produce a one-act performance piece.
Fall participants have written a play about Dundas -- its first family, history, claims to fame, art, music and culture.
Using videotaped interviews and archival photos and artifacts, the children will re-enact historical achievements, from the Mordens to today's modern Dundas family. Told with narrative voice-over, mime, video and music, the cast will dramatize a day in the life of Dundasians through several eras.
Directed by Martha Christianson, the 10 children involved in the project will arrange interviews with local historians, teachers, families, city councillors, war vets, archivists and civic organizations. Some areas of interest are: how did a child, a mom, a soldier, a public servant and their families live? How did they sleep, cook, eat, play, school, work, bank, and celebrate through art? What does the future look like for Dundasians? If you are interested in contributing call Christianson at 289-238-9586 or e-mail drewnmarty@yahoo.com
The Dundas Project will be presented on Nov. 16 at the Garstin Centre for the ARts, 37 Market St. at 2 and 7 p.m.
Tickets are available through the Dundas Little Theatre Box Office, 905-627-5266, or info@dundaslittletheatre.com Admission is $10 per adult, or $5 per student/senior.
